Late South African statesman Nelson Mandela undeniably still looms large over the country’s embattled democracy – 10 years since his passing on December 5 2013. Small wonder, an exhibition in his honour – titled Mandela is Dead, curated by Kneo Makgopa, and held at the Nelson Mandela Centre of Memory in Lower Houghton recently – evoked fond memories of a father of the nation who steered the country from the brink at a critical point of its precarious history.
