Scores of wine enthusiasts converged on the annual Proudly SA Local Wine Expo to indulge in the finest flavours from the Cape winelands on July 13 to July 15.  The venue – Prison Break in Lonehill – was a constant hive of activity during the three days of the show as the wine tap flowed and kept the collective mood in high spirits.

DURBANVILLE WINE FEAST

Durbanville Hills is lining up a feast for the palate and eyes while being regaled with stories behind the Cape Town landmark-inspired Collectors Reserve range on July 27, starting from 6pm. The Collector’s Reserve range is inspired by Cape Town’s creative energy. It’s a premium offering finely crafted by the estate’s winemakers, using the finest grapes. To truly connect the Winelands and City, the winery commissioned a vibrant Capetonian artist – Theo Paul Vorster – to impart his vision of hand-picked prominent landmarks onto each bottle. This range has been designed as a collector’s item for both wine and art lovers alike.

The winemaking and cellar teams will host you in intimate small groups to tour four taste experiences, followed by a paired three-course meal at our award-winning Tangram restaurant, with live music. Tickets cost R495 per person.

PINOTAGE TREAT

The best of the wines made from Pinotage awaits fans of the grape when the Pinotage and Biltong Festival 2023 takes place at the Allée Bleue Estate in Franschhoek on July 29 and 30. All manner of Pinotage – fizz, white, red, rosé, dry and sweet styles – will be up for tasting, each paired with a different biltong flavour from Namaqualand Biltong. Food will be available for sale as well. Guy Feldman will serenade guests with groovy covers. The event starts at 11am, and will be hosted in the estate’s Le Grand Hall. Regular tickets available via Quicket cost R350 p/p, include wine glass and all wine and biltong pairings. VIP tickets cost R550 p/p and include everything, plus bubbly as a welcome drink and a light cheese platter on arrival, service staff, late afternoon coffee and a sweet treat.

DURBAN’S PICK

It’s Durban’s turn to host the Pick n Pay Wine & Food Festival, which will pitch  the tent at Chris Saunders Park in Umhlanga Rocks on August 19, from 12,30pm.

The line-up includes tasting of the best of local wines, delicious food and live music. The festival celebrates the Cape winelands, Visitors will have the opportunity to sample wines from more than 20 top wine estates, including Durbanville Hills, Cederberg Wines, Du Toitskloof, Fat Bastard, Fryers Cove and Jacques Mouton who produces exclusive wines for Pick n Pay.

CAROLINE’S REVIEW

Caroline’s Red Wine Review is ready to unveil a treasure trove of the Cape’s most celebrated wines at a special tasting taking place at The Lookout, Granger Bay Boulevard, V & A Waterfront on July 27. One of the most coveted tasting events on the South African wine calendar, the tasting is presentedby Cape Town’s legendary Caroline Rillema. This world-class annual showcase gives wine enthusiasts the rare opportunity to discover and taste the Cape’s best flagship red wines. Only 90 accolade-achieving winemakers are invited to present just one wine – their best of the best – on the night.
