STAR: Twenty-five years of Kwaito’s star to be celebrated in the iconic Eyethu Lifestyle centre

Kwaito enthusiasts must ready themselves and pencil August 2 as a red-letter day to make a beeline to the Eyethu Lifestyle Centre, Soweto.
On this day, Kwaito icon S’bu Malawyer Ntshangase, will celebrate his lasting power – having been in the musical industry for 25 long years with his multi-award-winning ensemble, TKZee – also for the joy he derives for his hit song, AmaLawyer.
It is expected that Kwaito lovers will be flock to the venue to cheer him celebrating a milestone.
The event is also planned to be an event to celebrate 30 years of Kwaito’s existence.
Legends such as Mdu Masilela, and others big Kwaito names, are expected to grace the occasion.
Malawyer says the event is meant to recognise those who were featured on the celebration album that won him fame – AmaLawyer – and to give them a platform to perform their own songs, as well as to showcase his friends’ efforts in front of guests and other kwaito legends to attend the event.
“The Album was released approximately two years ago but I feel like there is still more to be done to push it,” says Ntshangase.
The Kwaito star says the day will mark a moment in his life to thank his friends and all his associate for helping to create hits that gave him fame.
“As someone who was able to crack into the music industry with the help of other legends, it is important that I should return the favour by giving a platform to other upcoming artists.
What a better way than to also allow them the opportunity to showcase and bring to the fore their musical talent at an event highlighting my musical success,” said Ntshangase.
Ntshangase is man of many talents. He is a South African recording artist, song writer, entrepreneur, and motivational speaker.
He was born in 1972 in Soweto, matriculated in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, and furthered his studies in Gauteng, studying electronic engineering at the Johannesburg Technical College, a qualification he did not complete.
In 1997, he released his first hit solo album – AmaLawyer.
In 1999, he took a break from performing as a solo artist to become instrumental in the formation of the collaborative group, TKZee family, which included Tokollo, Zwai, Kabelo, Loyiso, Gwaiza, and Dr Mageu.
In 2000, he recorded his third solo album, InjaYangasese which featured the highly sought-after jazz vocalist, the late Gloria Bosman.
With this album, Ntshangase laid the foundation for a new musical direction. Having 20 years of experience in the music industry, he has done events partnering with other kwaito legends.
“We couldn’t have chosen a perfect place to host this event than the historical Eyethu Lifestyle Centre situated in Mofolo in Soweto,” says the musical legend.
