Weekly SA Mirror is a 100% black-owned, BEE Level 1 start-up company with a mission to promote black advancement and empowerment. It was formed by a few experienced black journalists who left the mainstream media due to the contraction of newsrooms and the Covid pandemic in 2021.

The Mirror aims to inspire and empower readers, particularly the majority, to actively engage in shaping their own destinies and contributing to the drive to redress historical imbalances still dogging the present. It strives to help our readers to make sense of a fast-moving world by going beyond the headlines to connect politics, business, communities and culture—showing how today’s decisions shape tomorrow’s lives.

Our journalism prioritises context, credibility and accountability, giving readers insight they can trust.

Mission

• To contribute to media diversity in and greater spread of voices in the South African society.

• To shape and nurture the country’s young democracy by addressing critical issues affecting the majority.

• To provide empowering infotainment that inspires readers to gain critical insight to connect to the dots linking to facts, context and impact. For readers, that means sharper understanding and better choices.

• To promote Afro-optimism and counter global Afro-pessimism narratives.

Vision

To become South Africa’s leading multi-media publishing house inspired by empowerment-driven journalism, fostering informed and active South Africans in building a stronger, equitable democracy.
