A GENERATIONAL WAR

BAD BLOOD:  The grudge match between the sons of two boxers who met twice in the early 1990s is one of the most anticipated British fights of the year

By Sports Reporter

It’s about time. Chris Eubank Jr and Conor Benn finally settle it on Saturday, April 26 at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

This thing has been simmering for years. No fake handshakes. No peace talks. Just bad blood and family history ready to explode.

A fight that has been in the works since 2022 is nearly upon us. The grudge match between the sons of two boxers who met twice in the early 1990s is one of the most anticipated British fights of the year.

Eubank and Benn had been scheduled to face each other at O2 Arena in London, England in October 2022. However, that matchup was scrapped after Benn’s voluntary urine test showed trace amounts of fertility drug Clomiphene, a banned substance that can boost testosterone levels in men.

Benn’s suspension for the failed drug test was lifted in November 2022 by the U.K. National Anti-Doping Panel (NAPD).

In February 2023, the WBC wrote, “The WBC found that: (1) there was no conclusive evidence that Mr. Benn engaged in intentional or knowing ingestion of Clomiphene; (2) there were no failures in the procedures related to sample collection, sample analysis, or violations of Mr. Benn’s B Sample rights that would justify questioning or invalidating the Adverse Finding; and (3) Mr. Benn’s documented and highly-elevated consumption of eggs during the times relevant to the sample collection, raised a reasonable explanation for the Adverse Finding.”

Eubank is ranked No. 3 by the IBF at middleweight. The WBA has him at No. 8, and he is No. 3 in the WBC rankings. Benn enters Saturday’s fight as the No. 5 ranked welterweight according to the WBS. He is ranked No. 3 by the WBC.

Final Word Forget the belts. Forget rankings. This is generational war. Two names you know. Two legacies on the line. Eubank Jr’s got the experience, the chin, the spite. Benn’s got youth, pressure, the fire of a man who feels the world owes him. Someone’s going to eat canvas at Spurs. Question is — who’s pride will survive it? Will Eubank’s grin finally crack? Will Benn be the one left staring at the lights? Saturday’s the night. Bring your beer. Bring your guts.
