CONNECTION: AmaGroove back and bigger than ever — calling artists, producers, and sonic explorers from around the world to apply for its third groundbreaking residency in March 2026…
By WSAM Reporter
The rhythmic heartbeat of cross-continental creativity rises once more as AmaGroove prepares to host its highly anticipated third edition at the Kromdraai Impact Hub next year, from March 22 to 29.
Now recognised as one of the continent’s most forward-looking music residencies, AmaGroove continues to redefine what artistic collaboration can be, drawing in producers, artists, culture-shifters and sonic innovators from South Africa and across the globe.
The 2026 AmaGroove Residency builds on this momentum with a more immersive, boundary-pushing programme made possible through a dynamic partnership between Autor—Denmark’s largest community of composers and songwriters—the Riky Rick Foundation, the Danish Embassy in South Africa, Kromdraai Impact Hub, and One Groove.
Together, these partners champion artistic excellence, cultural exchange and sustainable opportunities for musicians at all levels.
AmaGroove has officially launched its 2026 open call, from 3 December 3 until January 6 next year, inviting both emerging and established creators to apply for a place in this genre-blurring residency. Applicants are encouraged to demonstrate artistic curiosity, originality and a willingness to experiment within a diverse cohort of collaborators.
Selected participants will embark on a transformative week at Kromdraai, engaging in collaborative studio sessions, creative workshops, wellness practices, cultural immersion activities and live performances — all intentionally curated to spark innovation and build enduring artistic relationships.
AmaGroove has become a vibrant hub for bold expression and cultural exchange. The 2026 programme is curated by Muneyi, the acclaimed South African indie-folk singer-songwriter inspired by Tshivenda culture and personal storytelling.
He is joined by Mishy Kope, a 2025 AmaGroove alumnus based in Cape Town, and visionary artist Msaki, founder of ALTBLK Continua. Together, they anchor the residency’s spirit of community, experimentation and artistic freedom — values that echo the legacy of Riky Rick, whose creative ethos continues to inspire the initiative.
Firmly rooted in South Africa’s creative landscape, AmaGroove expands its reach each year, positioning local talent within global networks and forging new avenues for cultural exchange. Selected residents will gain:
• Access to world-class production support and mentors
• A serene, inspiring creative environment
• Cross-cultural collaboration with South African and Danish artists
• Exposure to global networks and new performance opportunities
Creators eager to stretch their sound, deepen their craft and join a movement of culturally connected, future-driven artistry can apply via the official AmaGroove platform here: https://www.onegroove.world/amagroove-residency-opencall/
