The Madlomo Foundation NPC brought its She Inspires Africa initiative to Aurora Girls’ High School in Soweto on Monday, with a programme aimed at empowering young women beyond the classroom.
Held under the theme, “Empowering Young Women Through Holistic Wellness, Leadership and Purpose”, the Wellness Day focused on the emotional, physical, spiritual and financial wellbeing of learners.
The programme brought together pupils, educators, school leaders and invited guests for conversations on the choices, values and skills young women need to navigate their formative years and prepare for the future.
Madlomo Foundation chief executive Nomonde Mbekeni said the initiative sought to help girls understand the link between personal wellbeing and effective leadership.
“We want young women to understand that wellness is part of leadership. How you care for your mind, body, emotions, values and finances shapes the woman you become and the future you are able to build,” Mbekeni said.
“She Inspires Africa is about creating those conversations early and making sure girls have access to voices that can help them see what is possible.”
The morning opened with a prayer led by Pastor Nolwazi Mofokeng and a welcome from the school, followed by an introduction to the foundation and its community work.
Rev Mudau addressed learners on spiritual resilience, integrity, hope and the importance of building a life rooted in purpose and values.
Financial literacy also formed a key part of the programme. Talent Manyonga led a session on smart money habits, covering budgeting, saving, entrepreneurship and responsible financial decision-making.
Mbuyi Ntshangase explored mental, physical and emotional health, encouraging learners to develop emotional intelligence and make self-care part of their daily lives.
The leadership and motivational segment included an address by Yourpasstotravel chief executive Nhlanhla Litabe on identifying personal potential and pursuing meaningful goals.
Faith Seuoe reflected on Aurora Girls’ High School’s leadership legacy and the contribution of its late former principal. The session connected the institution’s history with the responsibility of its present generation of learners to carry its values forward.
Former Aurora learner Koki Tlhagane also shared a graduate success story, highlighting the roles of education, discipline and resilience in progressing from high school into professional life.
The event concluded with an interactive question-and-answer session, giving learners an opportunity to engage directly with the speakers.
The She Inspires Africa initiative promotes the empowerment of African girls and women through mentorship, representation, knowledge-sharing and engagement with professionals and community leaders.
