‘Braai With Backsberg’ — A Celebration Of Heritage, Hospitality

Backsberg Family Wines has launched its latest culinary experience, “Braai with Backsberg”, at the estate’s picturesque Franschhoek tasting room from tomorrow.

Hosted every Saturday throughout summer, this immersive experience pays tribute to the heart of South African living—celebrating the simple pleasures of good food and fine wine, enjoyed against a spectacular Winelands backdrop. Presented buffet-style and welcomed with a complimentary glass of Backsberg wine on arrival, the lunch follows a relaxed, thoughtfully timed flow. Guests arriving from 12:30 will receive their welcome wine, flame-grilled mains are served at 13:30, and the dessert of the day is available from 14:30.

The menu features a rotating selection of dishes accompanied by two fresh garden greens, priced at R350 per person. Vegan and vegetarian options are also offered, ensuring there’s something to delight every palate. Debuting just in time for the festive season, the new offering embodies the warmth and generosity of true South African hospitality. Guests can enjoy a relaxed alfresco lunch that brings an authentic taste of home to both locals and visitors, reimagining the traditional Winelands meal as laidback, abundant, and unmistakably Backsberg.

“We are so proud to launch this new offering,” says Backsberg Family Wines marketing manager, Morné van Greunen.  “It’s something truly unique in the valley — a way to honour our roots and the five generations of winemaking history that define Backsberg.  It delivers a more wholesome, heartier approach to dining than the traditional platter, while offering a relaxed, approachable alternative to Franschhoek’s celebrated fine dining scene.”
