CLUELESS GERMANY LIMPS ON

Germany began their European Championship campaign in limp fashion suffering a 1-nil defeat in their opening game against France. Very little seemed to have changed for the German side which three years ago saw them being eliminated in the group-stage exit at the World Cup. The loss to France on Tuesday is the first time the Germans have lost an opening game at the European Championship finals.

Coming against a Portugal side on Saturday brimming with confidence following their 3-nil win over Hungary, the soccer loving German people will be expecting a better show from their team who looked solid at the back but with little sparks from their forwards.

The past two years have seen the Germans fire lots of blanks and they will need to dig deep if they are to snatch maximum points from the marauding Portuguese national side. Germany are currently in this place without any points in Group F, with Portugal and France on three. Hungary look set to the whipping boys of this so-called Group of Death.

In his last tournament in charge, Germany coach Joachim Loew has a reputation to uphold and only a win and an eventual qualification to the last stage of the tournament will do.
