A week after the news, Cape Winelands’ Creation Wines is basking the glory of the choosing of its flagship Art of Pinot Noir 2022 to be included in the World’s Best Sommeliers’ Selection 2025.

The prestigious World’s Best Sommeliers’ Selection 2025 selection is curated by William Reed, organisers of acclaimed events such as The World’s Best Vineyards and The World’s 50 Best Restaurants. The initiative serves as a trusted reference for on-trade professionals worldwide, showcasing both established icons and rising stars in the industry.
The 2025 selection process was carried out by more than 30 top sommeliers and beverage directors from The World’s 50 Best Restaurants. As each wine was tasted, a detailed account of the rich narrative behind each bottle was provided, enabling the sommeliers to curate a selection that celebrates the diversity of flavours and the cultural heritage intertwined with winemaking traditions from various regions around the globe.
Of the milestone, Creation co-founder and managing director Carolyn Martin says: “To have one of our wines chosen by some of the most influential palates in the global hospitality industry is truly an honour”.
Following is the WBSS 2025 tasting note for Creation Art of Pinot Noir 2022:
“Wild, but elegant, this is an expressive and very spicy Pinot Noir showing sour cherry, red berries, Madagascar pepper and savoury nuances. The wine develops very nicely with air. Juicy, elegant and rounded on the palate with high acidity and perfect ripeness of fruit. Savoury, chewy tannins. Holds the alcohol very well which contributes to lovely broad palate. A really lovely wine, most pleasing and very well balanced. Congrats!”
For pairing with the wine, the sommeliers recommended: “This gastronomic Pinot would be equally amazing with Cochinita Pibil (Yucatán-stye barbecued pork) or smoked lamb with massaman curry”.
British wine expert Tim Atkin scored the wine 94 points, enthusing “the Prince of Reds at his most charming”.
Creation is situated in the South African wine region of Walker Bay, where – according to its website – “every dawn brings an exciting new challenge and innovation is a way of life – a spirit which has shaped our vision and our identity, resulting in a living, thinking wine estate pulsing with collective energy and creativity”.
