GQEBERHA WINE SHOW
The NEW Wine Show returns for its annual showcase at Port Elizabeth’s St George’s Club in the Eastern Cape on May 4 and 5, starting at 11am on both days.
Recognised as one of the top premium wine shows in the country, the show is back for a fourth year. Some of South Africa’s most prominent wineries will join forces to present premium quality in wine, food, and drinks.
Each ticket is inclusive of all the wine tastings poured from the wine producers attending. You will also have the opportunity to purchase wine on the day for off-site consumption or order for home delivery.
The chefs at The Club will be serving gourmet meals that pair perfectly with the wines that are presented at the show. The line-up consists of 13 wineries, hand-selected to highlight the different wines from different regions that complement one another.
DURBANVILLE SOIREE
The Durbanville Sauvignon Soirée, featuring the best from this Cape winelands valley, takes place on May 3 – to coincide with the global celebration of the International Sauvignon Blanc Day. The jamboree promises an exclusive tasting journey through Durbanville’s cool climate valley, headlined by the unveiling of the 2024 Durbanville Sauvignon Blanc, which is the culmination of the pooling of talents of local winemakers.
As with its previous two iterations, the 2024 vintage bears the true essence of the valley’s soils, climate and brainpower that has put this wine enclave on the world map.
Wine lovers who will be attending soiree will be exposed to the ageability of this variety with a special showcase of international selections and Sauvignon Blanc SA’s official Top 10 Sauvignon Blancs from 2020.
This year, a total of 10 wine farms contributed fruit from their best vineyards for its making. The responsibility of crafting the final blend this year rested with the Diemersdal team, which took the baton from predecessor De Grendel. The venue for this year’s soiree is Nitida estate, and tasting starts at 5pm, finishing at 8pm. Tickets, available via Quicket, cost R250 a person.
CAPE’S P n P WINE FEST
Discover a world of award-winning wines & delicious food at the Pick n Pay Wine & Food Festival at the Western Province Cricket Club in Rondebosch on April 27 and 28. Discover a world of award-winning wines and celebrate the finer things in life at the Pick n Pay Wine & Food Festival. Sniff, swirl and sample wines from top local wine estates while socialising with friends to the sounds of local live music in a chic, relaxed environment.
A Pick n Pay Tasting Room will host food-and-wine pairing demonstrations. Chefs and winemakers will share personal picks from various estates, and pair them with canapés in a tasting masterclass.
Tickets cost R275 a person.
PINO & BILTONG
The popular Pinotage & Biltong Fest 2024 will showcase two of SA’s best loved treats at the Rhebokskloof Wine Estate, Noord-Agter Paarl Road, Windmeul on April 27 and 28. On offer will be plenty of Pinotage in a range of fizz, white, red, rosé, dry and sweet styles, each paired with a different biltong flavour.
Apart from the many delicious biltong flavours by Jansen Pure Beef to be paired with all the Pinotage styles. Live entertainment with groovy music. MBOMBELA WINE SHOW
Unwined Food and Wine Show makes its annual return to Mpumalanga’s Mbombela Golf Club, Mbombela on May 4. The event will present a line-up of the best of South African wines.
By bypassing intermediaries, the organisers empower both wine enthusiasts and vintners, forging a direct connection that celebrates the artistry of winemaking. FIJNWYN IN PRETORIA
On April 30, the Fancy Fijnwyn will offer an evening of rustic elegance for Pretoria wine lovers who love the outdoors, featuring fine wine and cuisine.
The venue is 99 Luiperd Street Tiegerpoort, Pretoria East, the event starts at 16h00. Tickets cost R450 a person.
