IT’S HERE:  The 2023 Vitality Netball World Cup will endear the sport into the hearts of women and girls on the African Continent and the World

By Ali Mphaki

With the iconic presence of Table Mountain in the background and a stone’s throw from the Atlantic Ocean, the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC) precinct offers a unique combination of world-class venues and facilities, the scene of the forthcoming 2023 INF World Cup.

But as to be expected when visitors to Cape Town leave the airport, rather than the majestic Table Mountain or the scenic views, they are struck by the sight of Cape’s Town townships, Khayelitsha, Langa. and Gugulethu.

A mere 30-kilometer hop from Cape Town city center life in these black enclaves a far cry from the prosperous heart of the so-called Mother City, where elegant colonial buildings rub shoulders with world-class restaurants and art galleries.

Indeed with its warts and all Cape Town has a strong track record as an events destination and hosts major global events on an annual basis.

The annual signature events include: the HSBC Sevens Rugby, the Cape Town Cycle Tour, Old Mutual Two Oceans Marathon, Design Indaba, Mining Indaba, Absa Cape Epic, Cape Town International Jazz Festival, Cape Town Open, Sanlam Cape Town Marathon, the FIA World Rallycross, and Africa Travel Week.

No doubt the Netball World Cup would be the perfect addition Cape Town’s sporting calendar, and provide Africa and South Africa with the opportunity to welcome the world to showcase its expertise, hospitality, natural beauty, rich culture and passion for sport.

The Vitality Netball World Cup 2023 will take place in Cape Town South Africa from July 28 to August 6 – over 10 days – with a total of 20 teams taking part.

All games will be played in Cape Town. As part of its legacy, the 2023 Netball World Cup will see to the creation of new netball facilities across the host Province and City while further strengthening South Africa’s commitment to the growth of netball within its borders and the continent as a whole.
