E-HAILING TAXI SERVICE’S DISCOUNT OFFER TO VOTERS

While enraged Diepkloof residents are adamant that voting among this Soweto community will not go ahead as planned on November 1. Bolt, the e-hailing service, is offering at least 20 000 passengers a discount of R30 on trips to and from their polling station.

Gareth Taylor, Bolt regional manager in Southern Africa, says voters can enter the promotional code ‘BoltVoteSafe’ into the promotions tab on the app, to qualify for the R30 per trip discount for two trips.

“Hailing a ride to get to your polling station and back again also means those who would ordinarily drive themselves to vote won’t have to struggle for parking,” he says.

He says voters who don’t have the Bolt app loaded on their mobile phones can download it for free from their app store. – WSAM Reporter

CHURCH FLOCK TO HONOUR ITS CHERISHED SHEPHERD – PASTOR KHATHIDE

A rose to the living is better than a wreath to the dead. This seems to be the philosophy behind the black-tie gala dinner to honour the charismatic Dr Bishop Agrippa Khathide scheduled for next Saturday.

Khathide is renowned for his expositional preaching and passion for relationships and family. He was born in Charlestown on the border of Mpumalanga and KZN in 1958. He saw the light in 1977 while attending boarding school in Vryheid and never looked back, preaching the word of God for the past 46 years as well as writing 11 books and releasing three CD’s to inspire the youth and married couples.

One of the dinner organisers, Maqhawe Khathide, who is also his son, said they were expecting 150 people, mostly friends, colleagues and family. Keynote speaker is George Mahlobo and billed performers include Sello Malete. Sabata Masoka, and Spiritual Vitamins. – ALI MPHAKI

POLICE ARREST SIX STOCK THEFT SUSPECTS

Six men aged between 23 and 60 were arrested yesterday following their suspected involvement in an arm robbery and theft.

A joint multi-disciplinary operation held in Hlobane and Vryheid led to their successful arrests which, according to Colonel Thembeka Mbele, followed a tip-off between October 27 and October 28 about the whereabouts of wanted stock theft and armed robbery suspects.

The suspects were hiding in the homestead of a traditional healer at KwaHlathi Road in Ekuvukeni where they were arrested, she says.

Mbele says a total of four pistols, along with 26 rounds of ammunition and an undisclosed amount of cash, were recovered by police. Two vehicles were seized and taken to the pound for further investigation.

All six suspects were detained at Hlobane SAPS and will appear in the Vryheid Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday. – WSAM Reporter
