South Africa’s celebrity DJ and impresario Oscar “Oskido” Mdlongwa will be bringing legends to perform and serenade music lovers at the Hurdle Park in Linksfield, Johannesburg on November 30.

Titled “Oskidos Big Day Out”, the concert is a celebration of three decades of South Africa’s rich music heritage, invoking memories of a time when kwaito ruled the airwaves and laid the groundwork for the dance music explosion that followed.

“We’ll relive the golden era of kwaito as iconic artists grace the stage, reminding us of the joy, struggle, and vibrant culture that music has always inspired in our lives,” says Oskido, who recently announced the addition of some epic acts to the already legendary line-up that is sure to evoke cherished memories and bring the dance floor to life.

Joining the line-up are the internationally acclaimed duo Mafikizolo and “the King of Amapiano” himself DJ Maphorisa. Local favourite Mawhoo, as well as house music DJ giants Rocco Rodamaal and Ralf Gum, are also on the roster. These additions join a bill already brimming with kwaito legends like Zola, Mdu, Trompies, Boom Shaka, Professor, and Thebe, alongside dance music iconic DJs Christos, Ganyani, Vinny Da Vinci, Greg ‘Music Maestro’ Maloka, Glen Lewis, LeeMcKrazy and superstar DJ Zinhle.

“The concert will be South Africa’s vibrant musical legacy – where the golden era of kwaito meets the pulse of contemporary sounds, reminding us of the joy, struggle and community that music has fostered over the decades,” says Dj Oskido.

Complementing the star-studded line-up will the very best of South African food culture.

“We come a long way with the legends and Oskido, and it is an honour to be invited to be one of the performers on that day,” says DJ Ganyani Tshabalala.

”I will also be using the platform to promote my new single “Uthandolwethu” since the crowd is going to be a mixture of young and older crowd,” he adds.

Tshabalala says ordinarily it would have been challenging to get all these amazing legends to perform in just one concert, remembering how difficult it was for him when he shot his music video for I will be there, to get everyone to be present simultaneously, especially this time of the year when most of them were already booked for gigs.

To have pulled this feat goes to prove how special Oskido is to the music industry as well as rich legacy, which is underscored by the many artists he has helped succeed.

“Oskido played a very important part to empower most of these artists,” says Tshabalala. “It is important that people show up in numbers to support the legend while he is still alive”.
