Durban will host an international R&B legend in April when American singer Karyn White headlines a special advocacy concert aimed at raising awareness about gender-based violence and femicide (GBVF).

The ICONIC GLOBAL Advocacy Concert Against GBVF will take place on 4 April at the Olive Convention Centre, bringing together music fans, activists and community partners for an evening that blends entertainment with social advocacy.

Presented by Dante’s Premiere Lounge in partnership with Noble Lounge, the event reflects a growing effort within the lifestyle and entertainment sector to use cultural platforms to address pressing social challenges.

White, best known for classic hits such as Superwoman, Romantic and Secret Rendezvous, is expected to deliver an intimate live performance centred on themes of strength, independence and resilience — messages that organisers say align closely with the concert’s advocacy focus.

Organisers say the event is designed not only as a musical experience but also as a platform to encourage dialogue and collective action against GBVF, which remains one of South Africa’s most urgent social crises. “The concert forms part of ICONIC GLOBAL’s broader mission to create experiences that drive awareness and community engagement around issues affecting women and vulnerable communities,” organisers said.

Tickets for the concert are available online through Quicket, starting at R500, with limited capacity expected to drive strong demand.

The organisers say the event aims to demonstrate how music and culture can play a meaningful role in promoting awareness and social change.

One night of music with a message against violence.
