Renault Kiger goes turbo

UPDATED: The new version comes with improvements to performance, technology and design

Building on the updated naturally aspirated Kiger range introduced in 2025, the new Kiger Turbo steps  forward with enhancements that reinforce its position as one of the compelling options in the compact SUV segment.

The newcomer brings a bolder design, a smarter cabin, and more advanced tech, all built around everyday South African driving.

A refreshed exterior upgraded interior finishes and intuitive new convenience features give the model a more premium feel, while the turbocharged engine and Multi-Sense drive modes promise to deliver a lively, efficient drive that suits both city traffic and open-road momentum.

Inside, comfort is elevated through front (driver and passenger), ventilated leather seats ( only on iconic models), wireless smartphone replication, a 7-inch digital cluster, and thoughtful cabin storage.

The enhance tech suite includes lifestyle additions such as hands-free key card access, remote engine start, Belongings Reminder and Take-Break reminders, keeping the Kiger Turbo feeling modern and effortless to use

Safety is strengthened too., with up to 21 standard safety features across the lineup. including ABS with EBD, TPMS, ISOFIX and available ESC, TCS, and six airbags.

Under the bonnet, the new Kiger Turbo delivers serious punch harnessing a responsive 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol-engine pushing out up to 74kW and 160Nm.

Whether paired with a 5-speed manual or X-Tronic CVT, Kiger’s turbo powertrain gives confident, effortless performance.

Upper trims further elevate the experience with Multi Sense drive modes, letting you switch between Eco, Normal and Sport to match your mood and terrain.

With a ground clearance of 205 mm, this gives the newcomer that big-car practicality that SUV style vehicles are renowned for.

Where the Kiger seems to outshine rivals is in its cleverly-designed cabin offering 40.5L of boot space ( expendable to 87.9L), 29L of interior storage50-kg rated functional roof rails.

 The new Kiger Turbo also comes with rearview camera, rear parking sensors, rain sensing wipers, and tyre pressure monitors.

It wears size 16-inch wheels and has a full-size spare wheel.

What should further impress about the new Kiger Turbo is its impressive drinking manners, averaging a fuel consumption of 5 0l/100km, which increases to 6.0l/100km with the CVT.

It would seem that Kiger’s blending of style, packaging, and cost of ownership is what has endeared it to buyers across global markets.

This formula has driven its commercial success, with over 180 000 units sold globally and over 28 000 units on South African roads, highlighting the model’s broad and sustained market resonance.

With a choice of six colours to choose from, namely autumn yellow ( as seen in this article), grey, red, blue, white and silver, all models are offered with a 5-year/150 000km warranty and a 2-year/30 000 km service plan.

Noting the model’s role in expanding Renault’s SUV footprint in South Africa, Shumani Tshifularo, CEO of Renault SA, says,” With these enhancements, the Kiger continues to stand-out as one of the most competitively priced vehicle in its class, offering exceptional value without compromise.”

Pricing for the entry-level model, the 1.0 Evolution manual starts at R219 000 while the top-of-the-range Iconic Auto will set you back at R329 000.
