SPECIAL GRANT FOR UNEMPLOYED IN FOOD SECTORS

TRAINING:setas fulfil mandate of skills development act

Lindiwe Dlamini, the 43 year old owner of The Chillies Jar, a condiments-manufacturing and distribution business in Meadowlands, Soweto is happy that she is receiving help from the City of Johannesburg.

“The City of Johannesburg has given me a place to work from, and have sponsored the business with kitchen units, stoves and most of the other important equipment that will help my business to flourish,” Dlamini told Weekly SA Mirror this week.

But Dlamini, who regularly trains groups of unemployed women to manufacture and sell their own condiments, had not een aware that she could register and apply for a special grant or apply for apprenticeship or artisanship from a sector and education and training authority. And one suiting Dlamini and her business’ needs is the Food and Beverages Manufacturing Sector Education and Training Authority (FoodBev SETA).

Weekly SA Mirror has now arranged with the Foodbev SETA to visit and start an assessment process for Dlamini and her business. The FoodBev SETA fulfils the mandates of the National Skills Development Strategy by promoting, facilitating and rewarding skills development in the food and beverage manufacturing sector, including food preparation, beverages, processed foods and diary.

Meanwhile, the FoodBev SETA has committed to offer comprehensive education and training programmes in the urban and rural areas of South Africa by offering bursaries to unemployed people who have been accepted to study at TVET Colleges South Africa.
