Anthony Joshua said he is “still in the battlefield” and quashed any suggestion of nearing the end of his career as the Briton weighed in heaviest for Saturday’s world-title challenge against Daniel Dubois Two-time unified heavyweight champion Joshua, 34, takes on Dubois, 27, for the IBF belt at Wembley Stadium on Saturday. Joshua tipped the scales at 18st during an elaborate weigh-in at Trafalgar Square, with Dubois at a career-heavy 17st 10lb.

A PEARL FOR CSA
Cricket South Africa (CSA) has announced the appointment of Pearl Maphoshe as chairperson of the board of directors, with Advocate Ncumisa Mayosi appointed as the lead independent director.
With 19 years of diverse executive experience across multiple industries, Maphoshe has expertise in both board and executive leadership.
She has served as a Non-Executive Director on the boards of Johannesburg Stock Exchange listed companies and their subsidiaries. Maphoshe was appointed to the Board of CSA as an independent non-executive director in November 2022 and chaired the Human Resources (HR) and Remuneration subcommittee.
She currently chairs the HR and Compensation Commission at SASCOC and serves as the Chairperson of Human Capital and Remco at Medshield Medical Aid, Independent Expert on the HR & Remuneration Committee of the Government Employees Pension Fund and as an External Expert on the University of Kwa-Zulu Natal Human Resources Committee amongst others. Mayosi is a member of the Cape Bar of Advocates and currently serves as a trustee of the Archbishop Tutu Intellectual Property Trust.
BANYANA TAKE ON JAMAICA
African champions Banyana Banyana will face Jamaica in two away friendly internationals to be played on 29 November 2024 and 2 December 2024 in the tropical maritime island.
This will be the first time both teams are facing each other since April 2019 in Durban where they played to a 1-1 draw, and Banyana Banyana coach Dr Desiree Ellis said she was looking forward to facing the Jamaicans.
“I’d just like to say thank you to SAFA and Sasol for once again getting us a top-notch international match, coming so soon after the England game. You know, they’re top players playing in top leagues around the world, and their probably best-known player is Khadija Shaw,” Dr Ellis said. SAFA President Dr Danny Jordaan said these matches are part of the Association’s plans to ensure that Banyana Banyana prepare well for the WAFCON next year.
VICTORY FOR PROTEAS WOMEN
The Proteas Women will head off to the T20 World Cup with confidence after clinching a series victory against Pakistan with commanding eight-wicket win in Multan. Chasing a target of 154, the visitors powered to the total with only two wickets down with captain Laura Wolvaardt, Anneke Bosch and player-of-the-match Annerie Dercksen starring with the willow.
The Proteas Women will now head off to the United Arab Emirates for the T20 World Cup that kicks off on 3 October. Wolvaardt’s charges have been grouped with Bangladesh, England, Scotland and West Indies with the top two making the semifinals.
MIND YOUR LANGUAGE, VERSTAPPEN
Red Bull’s Max Verstappen has been censured by Formula 1’s governing body the FIA for swearing in an official news conference. Stewards at the Singapore Grand Prix ruled that the world champion must “accomplish some work of public interest” for using language they deemed “coarse, rude or may cause offence”. Asked for his reaction to the punishment, Verstappen said he had “no words”. Verstappen apologised for his behaviour.
