The Dome, a new state-of-the-art venue adjacent to the FNB Stadium south of Johannesburg, is set to open next month.
It is the project of Live Nation in partnership with Stadium Management South Africa and Gearhouse SA, and was announced recently. SMSA specialises in managing iconic South African venues, including FNB Stadium, Rand Stadium, Orlando Stadium, and Dobsonville Stadium, on behalf of the City of Johannesburg.
Live Nation Entertainment is the world’s leading live entertainment company comprising global market leaders such as Ticketmaster and Live Nation Concerts. Gearhouse is a leading player in the live event technical services industry, renowned for delivering world-class solutions to events.
Located in Nasrec, Johannesburg, adjacent to the FNB Stadium, the venue is set to become South Africa’s largest dedicated live entertainment space, with a capacity of over 10 500. The Dome is also Live Nation’s first permanent venue in Africa, reflecting the company’s commitment to expanding venue infrastructure, growing the touring circuit, and bringing African fans even more shows from both local and international artists.
The Dome is geared to become an entertainment hub for local and pan-African talent, featuring genres such as Afrobeats, Hip Hop and Amapiano. Nigerian Afrobeats star Tems has announced her first solo headline show at the venue on March 20 2025.
Entirely designed, manufactured and built in South Africa, the venue offers over 6 000sqm of multi-purpose space, and can also be used for conferences, exhibitions, banquets and product launches.
