THREE DAYS OF VINOUS ADVENTURE AT WINEX

South Africa’s premier consumer wine – the Standard Bank WineX – takes place at the Sandton Convention Centre in Johannesburg next Wednesday to Friday.

The event will be awash with the shades of wine in time for the arrival of at least 140 exhibitors in Sandton – to comprise a staggering variety of well-known award-winning cellars and lesser-known boutique brands, a range of artisanal foodies and bespoke accessory suppliers. Africa’s best private bank welcomes Gauteng wine lovers to share in this blend of the best.

The all-popular Tasting Theatre programme (small group themed 30-minute tastings with the wine maker) will again be in full swing. And to conclude an evening of vinous discoveries on a high note, visitors can buy wine via the Shop@Show portal by Norman Goodfellows, with delivery to your door by November 11.

Wednesday night’s show is strictly by invitation only. Tickets available via Webtickets for October 31 (R275); November 1 (R345) per ticket. Standard Bank clients will receive a discount of up to 30% on their ticket purchase, limited to four tickets per transaction.

EVENTS

JOZI WINE & SPIRITS FEST

After a stint in Cape Town and Durban, the International Spirits & Wine Festival will be held in Johannesburg on November 9. The venue is the Johannesburg Expo Centre, Nasrec Road. Tickets cost R180 per person.

Revellers are invited to indulge in an exquisite journey of taste and elegance, involving a showcase of the finest spirits and wines from around the globe. From captivating tastings guided by experts to exclusive seminars that unlock the secrets of one’s favourite libations, there’s something for everyone.

Guests will be able to mingle with top industry professionals while discovering hidden gems among the booths, where you can purchase your newfound favourites to savour at home. Whether you’re a seasoned connoisseur or a curious newcomer, this event promises to ignite your senses and leave you with memories to savour long after the last sip. Explore themed stands and savour gourmet food pairings amid live music or unwind at the exclusive chill lounge Gates open at 3pm and the event ends at midnight.

KEN FORRESTER EVENING

Cape Wine legend Ken Forrester teams up renowned chef Luke Dale Roberts for a gourmet evening of fine wines and bespoke dishes at Robert’s SALON Restaurant in Cape Town next Friday.

The evening will also celebrate Forrester’s iconic wine – the FMC – which this year heralds 20 years of its illustrious existence.  For the special dinner, Forrester has lined up five vintages of his flagship Chenin Blanc, which he conceived with his friend and mentor Martin Meinert.

SALON was recently crowned Africa’s Best New Restaurant at the 2024 World Culinary Awards.

During the evening, guests will be treated to an exquisite menu showcasing luxurious dishes such as Lobster Taco, Bouillabaisse Marseillaise, and Black Truffle Risotto, all created by Roberts alongside executive chef Carla Schulze. The experience is priced at R2 950 per person.

WHISKYLIVE

Whisky Live is the largest one-stop tasting and shopping experience showcasing 200 international and local labels annually.

Celebrating 22 years this year, the show will be hosted at The Firs in Rosebank, Johannesburg from November 7 to 9.

General access tickets afford visitors to the Whisky Live entrance to the tasting hall and includes 18 tasting tokens. They cost R495 via TicketPro. And VIP tickets, costing R1 995 a person, will provide access to exclusive seating and premium service throughout the night. This ticket will include 22 tasting tokens. Top-up stations will be available to purchase more tokens.

Meanwhile general access and masterclass combo tickets, costing R995 a person, will allow access to the tasting hall and a master class and will include 18 tasting tokens.

VERITAS IN JOBURG

The Johannesburg tasting of the Veritas award-winning wines and brandies is taking place at Deloitte at Waterfall City on October 31. The esteemed Veritas wine competition for market-ready wines annually grants wine aficionados across the country a chance to taste the top winning wines and brandies.

Wine enthusiasts can get themselves ready to experience the star-studded Veritas double gold and gold medal winning wines and brandies at a series of tastings that will be presented countrywide.

The Deloitte Johannesburg office is situated on 5 Magwa Crescent, Waterfall City from 17h00.

Tickets, costing R270, available at Quicket and will include wine, and brandy tasting, including tasting glass.

 GQEBERHA SHOW

The New Wine Show 2024 will take place in Gqeberha on tomorrow and Sunday, where some of South Africa’s most prominent wineries will present premium quality wine, food and drinks at the local St. George’s Club.

Each ticket is inclusive of all the wine tastings poured from the wine producers attending. You will also have the opportunity to purchase wine on the day for off-site consumption or order for home delivery.

The cost per day is R350 per person (early bird) via Plankton.mobi or R400 per person at the door. Limited tickets available.

SOWETO WINE & CHEESE

The Soweto Cheese and Wine Fest takes place at Soweto Theatre on Sunday.

Bringing together the best of local wine brands, both established and emerging brands under one roof, throw in cheese delicacies mixed with the tasty food from the Seven Colour Sundays vendors, a beautiful, fun, music loving audience.

To top it off with a line-up of talented Djs and performers to create a unique event that brings happiness and joy to many.

Friends and family welcome for a beautiful Sunday. Tickets, available through Webtickets, cost R100. It starts at 11am.

POLOKWANE GIN FEST

The SA Gin Society will be hosting the Schweppes Polokwane Gin Festival at Meropa Casino and Entertainment World in the Limpopo town on November 9.

The outdoor event forms part of the SA Gin Society’s mission to bring world-class gin to every corner of the country. The organisers promise the Schweppes Polokwane Gin Festival to be an unforgettable day out with friends and family.

Guests can expect a wide variety of craft gin brands, amazing food trucks and live entertainment. The festival ticket includes three gin tasting tokens which guests may redeem from any of the gin vendors at the festival.

“We have a jam-packed line-up ready to get you on your feet and onto the dance floor. From hip-hop to house to amapiano, there will be something for everyone. The full line-up of artists will be announced a bit closer to the time,” say the organisers.
