TIME OUT WITH NEW MZANSI FOOD & DRINK SHOW

CULINARY: Mega festival to incorporate themes from five other successful lifestyle events…

Gauteng’s lifestyle event calendar has a newest addition – the Mzansi Food & Drink Show, which is earmarked to be South Africa’s biggest culinary extravaganza.

Launched on Tuesday in Johannesburg, the Mzansi Food & Drink Show will take place at the Kyalami Convention Centre from June 15 to 17 in 2024.

The mega food and drink festival is the brainchild of RX Africa, the company behind some of the country’s premiere events including Decorex JHB, Comic Con Africa, Africa Travel Week and FAME Week Africa. The new festival will incorporate previous events like the highly successful Coffee & Chocolate Expo and Fire & Feast along with new additions – Fine Food & Wine, Bar & Good Spirits and the Mzansi Food Market.

Speaking at the launch, Hanli Goncalves, Portfolio Director of the Mzansi Food & Drink Show, said: “We believe South Africans are ready for a food show of this stature and we are determined to make it the biggest and the best culinary show on the African continent. It will be the stage on which local culinary personalities will strut their stuff and all the latest foods and trends are on offer, with something for the whole family and for all tastes.”

Visitors to the show will be able to enjoy food and drink tastings, cooking demos, masterclasses, special offers and a marketplace filled with gastronomic delights. It promises to be a fun-filled event, catering for the whole family, and taking place over a long weekend that includes Youth Day and Father’s Day on Sunday, June 16 – the perfect occasion for the Fire & Feast Festival in particular to entertain dads and lads with all things outdoor, meat and braai.

LUNCH OUT AT R & R

Rupert & Rothschild Vignerons will host an autumn luncheon at their Franschhoek estate, to pamper visitors with a five-course lunch on April 29.

The lunch will be hosted inside farm’s underground barrel cellar, paired with some of our most special vintage wines. The event starts at 11am. Later the guests will be treated to a special acoustic performance by multi-award-winning artist Bongeziwe Mabandla, the enigmatic spirit of African Soul. Bookings through the farm.

DURBANVILLE HOSTS SAUVIGNON SOIRÉE

Durbanville Wine Valley’s Sauvignon Soirée – a showcase of local and international Sauvignon Blanc wines – will be held at the Durbanville wine valley in the Western Cape on May 5.

The event, to take place at the Cassia Restaurant at Nitida Wine Farm from 5pm to 8pm, will treat visitors to some of the region’s world-renowned Sauvignon Blanc wines.

An added highlight will be the unveiling of the second vintage of the much-anticipated Durbanville Sauvignon Blanc.

A total of 13 producers from the Durbanville Wine Valley and Sauvignon Blanc SA and will offer international expressions for tasting, alongside a selection from the local best.

CONSTANTIA’S GAUTENG CHARM DRIVE

For two long weekends from April 20 to 30, Constantia wine estates will be offering complimentary Sauvignon Blanc tastings at different locations around Gauteng.

One of the events will be held at Proud Mary, The Bank Rosebank, in Johannesburg on May 4, from 6pm to 9pm. The evening includes Sauvignon Blanc tastings from nine Constantia wine estates, tucking into eats from the harvest table. Tickets available through Quicket.

PnP FOOD & WINE SHOW

The popular Pick n Pay Wine & Food Festival returns to Cape Town over two days on April 29 and 30.

It takes place at the Racecourse, Kenilworth, starting from 12noon. Visitors will taste wines from 40 farms, along with enjoying delicious food against the backdrop of live local music.

Visitors can also pre-book a 30-minute wine and canape pairing in our Tasting Room, where chefs and winemakers will show you how it’s done with personal picks from their estates, perfectly paired with melt-in-your-mouth canapes.

A day pass costs R250 and includes a branded wine glass, access to wine tasting, while a R320 ticket gets you access to a pre-booked 30-minute food and wine pairing session + a day pass, a branded wine glass, access to wine tasting. Children under 18 enter free, but must be always accompanied by a parent/guardian.
