Umoja, South Africa’s dynamic stage production, is a globally acclaimed phenomenon that has captivated audiences in over 50 countries in the past three decades. With award-winning choreography and stunning costumes, the production stands as a testament to South Africa’s artistic brilliance. Originally conceived by two Soweto women, Thembi Nyandeni and Todd Twala, the production was born of a desire to redirect the energies of the youth in Hillbrow away from negative influences like dagga and alcohol. The two were celebrated at a special ceremony hosted at the Soweto Theatre on Wednesday,. PHOTOS: Sipho Maluka
