Sowetans gear for Kota Festival

Kota lovers from Gauteng will again be spoilt for choice at the 7th Soweto Kota Festival scheduled to take place at Fun Valley Pleasure Resorts, near Soweto, Johannesburg south, on September 7.
The Festival was launched at the Soweto Theatre seven years ago, wh4n an overwhelming number of kota lovers flocked to the venue to enjoy different offerings of kota and variety of entertainment. The very first Kota in Soweto was made from the quarter portion of bread stuffed with mash potatoes, mince and atchara and has since grown to potato chips and anything else that can go with it including polony, cheese, viennas, amongst other stuffings.
The founder, Sydwell Tshingilane, said he was thankful to everyone who supported him from the beginning, including sponsors such as Blue Ribbon bread amongst others. The festival involves festivities of display of different kota styles offered by different vendors from around South Africa. Lucky Star has also since come on board as one of the sponsors as they claim that their products are also used in some Kotas. The event has won a Soweto Tourism award second in a row as it has topped most events held in Soweto by bringing and attracting people from other regions.
“This event is not just about eating Kota but it is a way for entrepreneurs to grow by attracting new clients and being able to access markets for their products,” says Tshingilane.
Early bird tickets cost R100 for adults and R50 for kids.
