The African Congress for Transformation (ACT) has expelled 11 members in the Free State for “gross violation of the constitution of the party”.

The party, led by former ANC secretary-general Ace Magashule, said in a statement issued this week that the expulsion of these 11 members was with effect from July 24, 2024.

The expelled members are Rankele  Lawrence Msinto, Mokone  Rantshaila,Tshidi Senoge, Tsietsi Setlhabela, Iris Mogamise, Maureen Moopoloa, Mapaseka Nkoane, Motlalepule Makobane, Tatum De Pearce, Rosa Ngcantsane and Tiisetso Khaalo.

According to the party’s statement issued by ACT provincial secretary in the Free State, Kgaketla Mokoena, the 11 were expelled for allegedly undermining party unity and engaging in actions that sought to divide and disrupt the party.

“Their behaviour breached our code and ethical standards. Their actions were detrimental to the collective goals and aspirations of the African Congress for Transformation,” said the statement.

Insiders believe that the expulsion of the 11 was triggered by the emergence of a photo showing the 11 or some of them posing with MK Party President Jacob Zuma at his residence in Nkandla.

Tatum De Pearce, an ACT NEC member who also appears in the photo, has reportedly confirmed that she has joined the MK Party. Some of the expelled members have been involved in the struggle since the 1970s.

Magashule and Zuma are long-time allies and have both worked together from their days in the ANC, a party from which both are now estranged. Magashule was expelled from the party while Zuma is still to face disciplinary action for establishing Mkhonto we Sizwe Party while still a member of the ANC.
