Mfl: Two bulls in a kraal
By Masoja Cele
Sunday Motsepe Foundation Championship fixture will see two inform rivals Orbit College FC battle it out against cross town rivals JDR Stars at home Olympia Stadium, Rustenburg. Kick-off 15:30.
College who are enjoying a consistency form have collected five points from a possible nine in three matches. The North West team played and drew 1 all against log leaders Durban City followed by another draw a (1-1) at Kruger United in Mbombela before trouncing neighbours Pretoria Callies 3-2 in Tshwane. The Swanky Boys are currently occupying third position on the log standings just three points behind leaders Durban City and JDR Stars. While,
The Hammer Boyz who are lying second behind Durban City have collected all nine points from three outings. Venda FC 2-1 at home, Hungry Lions 2-1 at home punished Cape Town Spurs 1-0 away in the Western Cape.
Orbit College were promoted to the championship last season and immediately made a huge impact. At some stage they led the race for promotion but, unfortunately the lack of experience and depth become a stumbling issue and falter towards the final lap and finished the campaign on ninth position. Based on their current consistency and uniformity, perhaps they could achieve the dream of playing in the Betway Premiership next season. However, that dream requires massive hard work, resilience and sacrifices.
The Mswenko Boys will rest their hopes on the Lesotho international goalkeeper Sekhoane Moerane. The 27 year old goal minder has been the pillar of the Mswenko Boyz defence. To date he has conceded ten goals a record he shared with most of his counterparts in the championship. Other players who could be menace to the JDR team are former Marumo Gallants attacking midfielder Tshwarelo Bereng and defensive midfielder Kobamelo Setlhodi. In attack the North West team will be led by the striking pair of Lethabo Modimoeng and Ayanda Lukhele.
One would be easily tempted to classify this encounter a battle of two bulls fighting for supremacy. The Hammer Boyz has on numerous occasions attempted to win the championship outright but slipped towards the finishing line. JDR are mentored by the chairman Nditsheni Nemasisi who is an attorney. Perhaps, Mr Nemasisi needs to excuse himself from the coaching role and employ a knowledgeable football tactician who may elevate the team to another level.
The Tshwane team are currently enjoying good form of football. Certainly, JDR will want to sustain their consistency throughout the season. The Hammer Boyz has watched teams like Richards Bay, Sekhukhune United, Polokwane City, Baroka and Magesi FC gaining promotion to the elite league while they remain rooted in the championship. Who Knows? Maybe the scales will tilt in their favour in this campaign.
Players like Prince Nxumalo who was the team’s leading goal scorer last season with 18 goals and the rampart Ishmael Wadi are highly dangerous when given too much space to manoeuvre
This match promises to be a cracker consider the form book of the two sides.
In another Sunday match in the Motsepe Foundation Championship, University of Pretoria FC will host Leruma United at Tuks Stadium, Pretoria. Kick –off 15:30.
