South African glamour team, Kaizer Chiefs – after suffering a string of league defeats in the last few weeks –  face a mammoth task of trying  to retain their confidence when they face a rejuvenated Durban City side at the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg on Sunday.

The  Betway Premiership action – their 19th league fixture of the season – will kick-off  at 3,30pm.

Amakhosi head into the encounter determined to end a difficult run of form during which they have suffered three consecutive league defeats. The team will be eager to turn the tide in front of the Amakhosi faithful and reignite their push up the table.

Their fans have been vocal especially in the past few weeks about the team’s performance amid calls for the removal of the current coaches and the immediate appointment of a new Head coach to steer the glamour boys to its rightful position in the league.

The log standings currently reveal that Chiefs occupied sixth place with 30 points from 18 matches and Durban City are two places higher after collecting 32 points in their 20 matches.

Chiefs will be without Aden McCarthy and Sibongiseni Mthethwa, both suspended after picking up their fourth cautions in the previous match. On a positive note, defender Zitha Kwinika returns to the squad after serving his one-match suspension, giving the technical team a welcome boost in defence.

However, several injuries continue to limit options, but the squad has enough depth and remains focused on delivering a strong performance. The problem facing the team is that the players do not seem hungry enough especially in front of goal where their forwards cannot convert easy chances into goals.

Pressure from the thousands of their fans tomorrow is expected to help the team to accelerate their performance in their bid to close the gap and at least contest for a place in the league’s top eight  bracket.

Victory for the Glamour Boys would see them leapfrog Durban City into the top four, adding extra significance to this fixture. This clash is more than just three points, it is an opportunity for Chiefs to restore confidence, close the gap on the leading pack and give their fans reason to believe in a strong finish to the season. Durban City, meanwhile, will be determined to hold their position and keep their momentum going.
