Hair loss and balding remain deeply personal challenges for many people, often driving a search for effective solutions while also creating opportunities for innovation and entrepreneurship within the hair and wellness sector.

A global healthcare and hair innovation company, Dr Brown’s Group of Companies (DBG), is seeking to address both. The company officially launched its South African operations last week, following flagship events held in Johannesburg and Cape Town.

Founded by award-winning physician Dr Kyjuan H. Brown, also known by his African heritage name Kwaku Asante, the group has introduced a physician-led ecosystem that combines clinical hair and wellness solutions, accredited education, AI-powered diagnostics, and doctor-formulated products into the local market.

The launch events brought together industry professionals, entrepreneurs, educators and potential partners, signalling a broader ambition to modernise Africa’s hair and wellness sector through science, technology and structured professional development.

“This expansion is more than a market entry; it represents a commitment to collaboration, education and innovation within Africa’s growing beauty and healthcare industries,” said Brown. “South Africa offers a powerful gateway for growth on the continent.”

Rather than introducing a single product range, DBG’s entry into South Africa centres on a structured platform designed to elevate professional standards, expand revenue opportunities for practitioners and introduce advanced technologies into th

The expansion is built on three core pillars:

Dr Brown’s Institute of Health Sciences, a professional education platform offering certified training in hair science, scalp disorders and consultation systems.

Dr B’s Laboratory, a clinically developed product range formulated through dermatological research and patient-tested development.

TricoExam®, an AI-powered diagnostic system designed to enhance accuracy in hair and scalp consultations.

Together, these pillars aim to strengthen South Africa’s beauty and wellness economy by improving service quality, reducing client loss linked to untreated conditions, and enabling professionals to build more sustainable businesses.

Beyond product innovation, the group is also contributing to skills development. With fewer than ten trained trichologists serving a population of over 60 million people, the shortage of specialised expertise remains significant.

Through the Dr Brown’s Hair Restoration Institute, the organisation is currently training 22 women to become certified trichologists and entrepreneurs, with plans to expand the programme further.

The visit also included engagement with Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities Deputy Minister Mmapaseka Steve Letsike, as part of broader discussions on empowering women and youth entrepreneurs.

Brown confirmed that the company’s clinical hair care product range is expected to be available in South Africa within the next three months, with further announcements to follow.
