Kruger United says chairman Bongani Wati left the club on September 23, but Wati says he knew nothing about his departure and still considers himself part of the team.
In a statement, the club said Wati no longer had any role in its operations, commercial dealings or football affairs, and was no longer authorised to represent it. It thanked him for his service and appointed Treasure Mathebula as interim chief executive officer while it searches for a permanent replacement.
Club president Bazil Khoza said Kruger United’s Betway Premiership campaign would continue uninterrupted. He assured players and staff that their contracts and financial obligations would be honoured, and urged supporters to disregard speculation.
“The board and I remain firmly in control of the affairs of the club,” Khoza said.
Wati, who co-owns the club, expressed surprise when KickOff contacted him about the statement.
“I don’t know about that,” he told the publication. “As far as I’m concerned, I’m still part of the team. I don’t know what’s happening.”
The club has not explained the circumstances of Wati’s reported departure or addressed his assertion that he had not been informed. – Mpumalanga Mirror
