Throngs of people poured onto Braamfontein’s Juta Street yesterday to mourn the death of rising star Khanya “The Voice” Hadebe, who was killed in a car accident in Marikana in the North West last Saturday – along with five other people, including musicians Sakhile “Killer Kau” Hlatshwayo, Mongezi “Mpura” Stuurman, Thando Tot.

The entire street was filled with hordes of youth dressed in different shades of green in keeping with the fallen budding star’s social media moniker, Luminating Green.

Some posters were emblazoned with the 22-year-old Hadebe’s last social media posting, “Appreciate your life, show gratitude at all times”.

His music stable, Soweto Music & Entertainment Academy, said the families of the deceased received a call from Marikana Police Station on Monday night, informing them about the fatal accident on Marikana road (N4) that had claimed the lives of the musicians.

“It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of 3 members affiliated with the record label, SMEA, an inspiring record label from Soweto. The trio was traveling to a gig in Rustenburg with other artists in the car,” said SMEA. According to reports, North West police have opened an investigation into the car accident, which claimed the lives of six people.

“As family and community, we have lost our Voice. It is now time for us to come together and find our light,” read a poster distributed in tribute to Hadebe. A flotilla of green balloons was released to the sky at the gathering by the crowd as a mark of their fondness for the departed Hadebe.
