AUDI, ITS ELECTRIC

Audi South Africa will go full throttle on electric vehicles (EVs) next year, when it plans to introduce six electric models across three different model ranges to the local market. This follows the announcement earlier this year by the German luxury brand that by 2026 every new Audi model launched on the global market will be all-electric.

The fully-fledged e-tron range to be introduced in the local market includes the Audi e-tron 50 and e-tron 55 sports-utility vehicles, the Audi e-tron Sportback 55 and e-tron Sportback S crossover utility vehicles, and the Audi e-tron GT and Audi RS e-tron GT highperformance vehicles.

“Announcing our electric vehicle range is a key part our objective to have the youngest and freshest product offering in the market and we’re excited to share more details with our customers on our electric journey over the next few months,” a statement from Audi said. Product specification and pricing of the e-tron range will be announced closer to the launch date

AMAROK ROCKS

The Amarok is Volkswagen’s best-selling model for Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles so far, with 908 units sold in the first six months of 2021.

Volkswagen notes that its vehicle portfolio in South Africa will be bolstered by new model introductions in the second half of the year.

The new Tiguan was recently launched into the local market, while retail sales of the Golf 8 GTi, which is Volkswagen’s most anticipated launch this year, will start in September. Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles will be introducing the new-generation Caddy in October.

STOP BEFORE SHIFTING THOSE GEARS

Shifting between reverse and drive (and vice versa) in a car fitted with an automatic gearbox is really bad for the transmission.

The automatic ‘box is designed to shift gears – leave the brakes to do the stopping.

Shifting gear before coming to a stop will cause wear and tear on the transmission band, rather than the brake discs and pads, which are serviceable items. Any work on the automatic transmission will be labour-intensive, and therefore costly.
