FESTIVAL OF MOTORING POSTPONED
The 2021 Festival of Motoring originally scheduled for 26-29 August, at the Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit.has been postponed until next year, thanks to the Covic-19 pandemic.
Managing Director Joshua Low said the decision was made due to the latest surge in Covid-19 cases and the worsening of the third wave. This means that the next edition of the event will take place from 26 to 28 August 2022. Organisers say the 2022 event will provide the ideal platform for the motor industry to relaunch and engage with potential customers in an experiential format.
LEXUS GOES TOPLESS
With summer on its way what better way to enjoy a cruise than in the Lexus flagship LC range which just got a lot cooler with the introduction of a convertible version.
Only one derivative is available, and it’s priced at R2.3 million. The coupe, on the other hand, retails for R2.1 million. It is powered by a naturally aspirated 5.0-litre V8 petrol engine that channels 351kW and 540Nm to the rear wheels via a 10-speed automatic transmission. It accelerates from 0-100km/h in just 4.7 seconds, according to Lexus.
Grade levels are pretty extensive, as one would expect of such a premium offering. Some of the luxury additions include a quilted semi-aniline leather trim upholstery, 21-inch forged-alloy two-tone alloy wheels, and not forgetting the Pièce De Résistance convertible top that opens in approximately 15 seconds.
Customers can choose from 11 colour options paired with a black trim and black roof, flare red trim and black roof, ochre trim and beige roof, or ochre trim and black roof. There are also four interior colour trims to choose from.
MERCEDES CITAN VS VW CADDY
The new second-generation Mercedes-Benz Citan, which has been revealed ahead of a market launch in Germany next month, will be the last model from Mercedes-Benz Vans to offer a combustion engine option.
Twinned with the Renault Kangoo and available as either in Panel Van or Tourer MPV guises, the small van has been substantially redesigned to bring it into line more obviously with Mercedes’ passenger car line-up. The company highlights the vehicle’s “muscular shoulders” and “striking wheel wells” as standout features, but emphasises that ease of use remains the top priority.
The standard version is 4498mm in length, offering a 3050mm-long load bay in the van variant, but short- and extended-wheelbase options will follow. Obvious rival is the VW Caddy.
SUBARU WRX TO BE UNVEILED
TOKYO – The 2022 Subaru WRX was originally scheduled to make its world debut at the New York Auto Show August 19, but since the show was cancelled due to lingering Covid-19 concerns, the new-generation performance sedan’s reveal has been delayed.
Thankfully Subaru WRX fans won’t have to wait too long to see it, as the Japanese carmaker has confirmed that it will reveal the new model on Friday, September 10. The 2022 Subaru WRX will be powered by a new 2.4-litre turbopetrol engine, with an expected output of around 220kW. That’s just 1kW shy of today’s STI model. On that topic, the new STI will get an uprated version of the new 2.4, with a rumoured output in the region of 260kW.
