Louis Vuitton is marking the 130th anniversary of its celebrated Monogram with the introduction of Monogram Emblème, a contemporary interpretation of the motif that has become synonymous with the luxury fashion house.

Unveiled in June as part of the Pre-Fall 2026 collection, Monogram Emblème draws inspiration from the cotton canvases once used to cover Louis Vuitton travel trunks. The new material combines the house’s longstanding luggage-making heritage with modern textile development.

The highly tactile jacquard canvas is made from a blend of Global Organic Textile Standard-certified cotton and linen fibres, producing a distinctive textured finish.

Louis Vuitton says the durable fabric is water-repellent and features a denser Monogram pattern designed to resemble embroidery.

Its depth of colour is achieved through the use of five differently coloured threads. The shades have been selected from the Vuittonnier, Louis Vuitton’s signature colour library, which preserves hues associated with the house’s design history.

The first two colours introduced with the Pre-Fall collection were Peuplier and Rose Ruban. Peuplier takes its inspiration from the wooden structures of Louis Vuitton’s historic trunks, while Rose Ruban pays tribute to the ribbon detailing that appeared on earlier trunk designs.

Two more shades are scheduled to join the collection in September. Monogram Bleu is drawn from a colour recorded in the house’s archives during the 1930s, while Vert Jura takes inspiration from the vegetation of the Jura region in France, where Louis Vuitton was born.

Monogram Emblème has been applied to several of the brand’s best-known handbag designs, including the Alma, Neverfull, Speedy, Noé and Keepall.

It also appears on the Side Trunk, a contemporary model that directly references Louis Vuitton’s origins as a maker of luxury luggage.

The redesigned motif extends beyond bags to a selection of small leather goods, footwear and accessories.

By returning to the materials, colours and craftsmanship associated with its early travel trunks, Louis Vuitton has used the anniversary to revisit its heritage while giving its most recognisable signature a fresh texture and character.
