Amstel Lager and AmaZulu Football Club have announced a partnership aimed at strengthening ties with supporters through matchday activities, fan initiatives and celebrations of the club’s history.

Unveiled at The AmaZulu Experience at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban on Friday, October 30, the agreement marks a new chapter for the beer brand in KwaZulu-Natal.

The collaboration will roll out across the season, with activities and content intended to bring supporters closer to the club and celebrate the communities behind Usuthu.

Amstel Lager’s mainstream beer category lead, Boipelo Malao, said the partnership would build on the connections football creates, with a focus on experiences shared by supporters on matchdays and beyond.

“We want to honour the pride of the Usuthu family and create golden moments that bring people closer together,” Malao said.

The planned programme includes matchday activations, fan-led initiatives and community stories reflecting AmaZulu’s identity. These will provide the main platform for supporter engagement as the partnership develops.

The announcement did not disclose the agreement’s financial value or duration.

A proud heritage

Founded in 1932, AmaZulu occupies an enduring place in KwaZulu-Natal’s sporting and cultural life. Its rallying cry, “Hebe! Usuthu!”, has united generations of supporters, while its community involvement extends to grassroots football and young people.Club president Sandile Zungu said the agreement reflected both respect for that history and an ambition to strengthen the club’s future.

“AmaZulu FC is more than a football club. We carry a proud history and responsibility to the people who have built and supported this club across generations,” Zungu said.

“In Amstel, we have found a partner that respects that legacy and shares our ambition for the future.”

He said the collaboration should create value for supporters, deepen community connections and contribute to building a club the Usuthu family could take pride in.

The partnership also expands Amstel’s involvement in football, with the season’s programme expected to place AmaZulu’s heritage, culture and supporters at the heart of its activities.
