This is one of the festivals I enjoy as it resonates with the times I grew in listening to Kwaito and the music we all enjoyed during its Era. Who would have thought that aMapiano would be the in thing in 2026.
With Festivals like OSKIDOS BIG DAY OUT we are reminded of the good times and what made us who we are today. The songs do not age, and so do we. The festival is a celebration and symphonies of the melodies that takes us back as we sing along and dance to song like Thobela by Boom Shaka, Izinja Zami by TKZee and Gibela Phez Kwendlu by Mdu Masilela.
This year’s headliners for the first phase will be none other than Liquideep and Mdu Masilela who will be joined in by producer / DJ Duo outfit B.O.P (Brothers of Peace) which comprises of Bruce ‘Dope’ Sebitlo and Oskido.
Oskido is a legend and connected with most artists in one way or the other. He even helped shaped their careers and continues to do so unselfishly even today. There will be no hard times for Kwaito artists as long as Oskido can do something about it.
The event is a breath of fresh air. No children are allowed as it is time for the adults to hang out and dance to the tunes that will make them remember the good times.
As some will say, Kwaito is not dead and will never die as long as people remember it and are still enjoying it. Their songs did not die in people’s hearts but, simply became the soundtrack to their lives. From packed township street parties and iconic nightclubs to family braais, road trips and festival stages, their music continues to unite audiences across generations.
The Festival is scheduled to return to Huddle Park, Linksfield in Johannesburg as the venue is perfect to cater for the number of the masses that attend the event.
Not only Legends and chart-toppers will be the highlight of this festival, rising stars wil also be there to teach the legends a d thing or two or be schooled. Either way the guests will be leaving home feeling fulfilled and entertained.
“Big Day Out has always been about celebrating the music that connects us all,” says Oskido.
Exect an emotional journey through decades of SA classics, from the soulful melodies of Liquideep, the unmistakable grooves of Brothers of Peace and the infectious energy of MDU, that made them all household names.
More headliners, surprise performances, lifestyle experiences and exciting brand activations will be revealed soon, building towards one of the country’s most anticipated music events of the year.
Whether you’re revisiting the songs that defined your youth or discovering these icons for the very first time, Oskido’s Big Day Out 2026 promises a day filled with nostalgia, celebration and unforgettable moments.
