Comic Con Africa with Capitec returns to the Johannesburg Expo Centre at Nasrec from September 24 to 27, promising four days of entertainment, creativity and innovation that extend far beyond pop culture.
Running daily from 9am to 6pm, the festival has evolved into one of Africa’s biggest lifestyle and entertainment events, attracting art lovers, gamers, technology enthusiasts, families, aspiring creatives and industry professionals.
One of the show’s biggest attractions is Artist Alley, where South African artists showcase original paintings, illustrations, comic art and digital creations. Collectors and buyers will have the opportunity to purchase exclusive works, commission new pieces and meet the artists behind them.
For emerging creatives, the event offers invaluable exposure, with thousands of visitors passing through the exhibition halls each day, creating opportunities to connect with collectors, collaborators and media representatives.
Comic Con Africa also places a strong emphasis on education and professional development. A series of talks, workshops and panel discussions will feature artists, educators and industry experts sharing insights into careers in comics, animation, illustration, storytelling and digital content creation.
Visitors can also attend practical workshops covering comic and manga creation, creative writing, animation and cybersecurity, while local animators will showcase exclusive screenings of their latest productions.
Gaming remains at the heart of the festival, with a dedicated gaming hall offering visitors the opportunity to test the latest consoles, games and accessories before they reach the wider market. Esports tournaments, daily competitions and special retail offers will add to the excitement throughout the weekend.
Families are equally well catered for through KidsCon, a dedicated children’s zone featuring interactive entertainment, gaming experiences, arts and crafts workshops, tabletop games and appearances by popular characters, including Mario and Luigi, as well as YouTube favourites Noodle and Bun.
Beyond entertainment, Comic Con Africa has become an important business and networking platform. Importers, manufacturers and retailers use the event to unveil new products, while entrepreneurs and industry professionals explore collaboration opportunities and emerging market trends.
The convention also hosts the Japan External Trade Organisation (JETRO), providing South African businesses with opportunities to engage with Japanese companies, explore licensing partnerships and discover new products destined for local markets.
Whether visitors are passionate about comics, gaming, technology, art or simply looking for a memorable family outing, Comic Con Africa continues to offer an experience that appeals to every generation.
Tickets are available through Howler, with more programme announcements expected ahead of the festival.
