Friends, family and music industry personalities and some members of Soweto community gathered in Diepkloof Zone 1, Soweto, last Sunday for the 89th Birthday Celebration of Ntiseng Elias “Shamber Boy” Lerole, the legendary South African pennywhistle and saxophone musician. The occasion marked a wonderful milestone honouring an iconic figure in Kwela and Mbaqanga music and a founding member of the famous mid-1950s street band Elias and His Zig-Zag Jive Flutes (originally known as the Alexandra Shamba Boys). .
