The wife of the late veteran entrepreneur Dr Sam Motsuenyane’s wife Nomgqibelo Jocelyn Motsuenyane, has passed away at the age of 92 – just a day after burying her husband.

The sudden death of Mrs Nomgcibelo Jocelyn Motsuenyane (in the picture) was announced by the Dr Sam Motsuenyane Foundation today. The couple, who live on a farm in Winterveldt, north of Pretoria, had been married for 70 years.

Sam Mokgethi Motsuenyane, founding chairman of African Bank, died on April 29 at the age of 97. He was the longest serving president of the National Federated Chamber of Commerce and Industry. In a statement issued to the media today, the family indicated that the matriarch’s passing marked an end of an era as the Motsuenyane family is mourning the loss of two pillars who contributed immensely to their communities and the rest of the nation.

Only yesterday, the Akasia Community Hall in Pretoria was packed to capacity during Dr Motsuenyane’s funeral service. The funeral service in memory of the retired teacher will also be held at the same venue on May 15. She will, thereafter, be laid to rest alongside her husband at the Zandfontein Cemetery.

The late business dynamo was once a Member of Parliament and served as South Africa’s first ambassador to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

He was also an esteemed Member of the National Order of the Baobab (Gold) in recognition of his significant personal achievements.

The couple were also known for their involvement in their community activities. In March 1986, Mrs Motsuenyane lost her house in a petrol bomb attack by members of the Bophuthatswana Police in Winterveldt, BophuthaTswana.

According to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission records, Ms Motsuenyane was part of a group of people who tried to organise a meeting between members of the community and the Winterveld Community Council to address grievances relating to police harassment. – Additional information from SABC News
