Wet weather, thunder and cold front literally rained on the parade of glitz and glamour at this years’ Johnnie Walker Blue Polo event at Inanda Club in Sandton this past weekend.
But it failed to dampen the jovial spirit among the throng of media personalities, TV personalities, celebrities who gathered to watch Polo in the gloomy weather – and still showed up in their best designer wear at this yearly glamorous event.
Food, music and drinks kept the crowd in high spirits despite the heavy rain disrupting the games time and again. This year, Johnnie Walker Blue Label Polo dazzled attendees with an unprecedented twist to mark South Africa’s premier evening polo event. As the rain stopped, the thrill of the games ignited, creating an atmosphere of luxury and excitement. Craig James, Inanda Polo manager, said he didn’t think the rain stopped anything since the event was able to bring the vibe and the warmth and guests pitched dressed to the occasion.
“It was challenging as a polo player, but the players did an incredible job, so did Johnnie Walker Blue,” James said. He added that they always put the horses’ well-being first and that they wouldn’t push them if they thought they wouldn’t cope. The horses were performing but as the weather got intense they slowed them down. They handled the situation very well as they were able to turn the corners.
“If the weather was not an issue, guests would have seen more polo games and people wouldn’t have had to put on warm clothes,” said James He believes that overall it was a very successful event and everything went well.
