CAMARADERIE: Joburg’s wine-swirling glitterati showed up in fine fare at the Nedbank Cape Winemakers Guild Auction (CWG) Showcase at the Nedbank Atrium in Sandton on Wednesday. Among them were Millicent Chiloane, pictured with winemaker Coenie Snyman. Thanks to a CWG protege programme, youth from the disadvantaged communities benefit from bursary from proceeds of the auction to study viticulture at Stellenbosch University to ultimately become winemakers.
The event is the forerunner to the annual CWG auction, where wines exclusively produced by members of the CWG members will go under the hammer during bidding at the Lord Charles Hotel in Somerset West in the Western Cape on October 4 and 5. To take part, wine collectors will need to create a bidder’s account. Once a bidding account has been created, bidders can register to bid on the Strauss and Co website. Registration started a week ago.
