Football fans worldwide have been introduced to three new faces who will carry the spirit of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Maple the Moose of Canada, Zayu the Jaguar of Mexico and Clutch the Bald Eagle of the United States were unveiled yesterday as the official tournament mascots, each chosen to reflect the culture and character of their host nation.

The mascots are intended not only to embody national pride but also to unite supporters across borders as the first expanded 48–team World Cup prepares to take centre stage across North America from 11 June to 19 July 2026.

“Maple, Zayu and Clutch are full of joy, energy and the spirit of togetherness, just like the FIFA World Cup itself,” said FIFA President Gianni Infantino. “They’ll win hearts and spark celebrations across North America and around the world. I can already picture them on children’s shirts, high-fiving football legends and starring in video games played by millions worldwide.”

For the first time, FIFA’s mascots will also step into the digital arena. Under FIFA’s growing FIFA programme, the trio will feature in the forthcoming game FIFA Heroes, an arcade-style five-a-side title developed by ENVER and Solace.

The mascots will appear alongside football icons and characters from popular culture, with the launch timed to coincide with the 2026 tournament. A separate Roblox project, FIFA Super League Soccer, will also highlight the mascots through themed quests and rewards.

Merchandise bearing Maple, Zayu and Clutch will be available through FIFA’s official store, and their presence will be felt both in stadiums and online throughout the tournament. Each character has been crafted with a narrative that mirrors its country’s identity.

Maple the Moose, a resilient goalkeeper with a love of art and music, represents Canada’s diversity and strength. Zayu the Jaguar channels Mexico’s heritage and flair as a nimble striker, while Clutch the Bald Eagle captures the bold spirit of the United States with fearless play and a unifying presence in midfield.

Together, the three mascots symbolise the ambition behind what will be the largest World Cup in history, a tournament FIFA has billed as “game-changing” for its expanded format and tri–nation staging. – Fullview
