Grammy-nominated superstar brings her iconic catalogue to Cape Town, Durban and Pretoria in a three-city tour.
South Africa’s Women’s Month (August) is set to reach new musical heights, as one of R&B’s Tamia makes her highly anticipated return to the country.
Tamia, the six-time Grammy Award-nominated singer and multi-platinum artist whose soulful sound has touched hearts across generations, will headline the said to be the biggest Women’s Month celebration tour experience.
A three-city concert series that is already creating excitement among South African music fans.
Organised by Gabiso Media, the tour kicks off on August 6 at the Grand Arena, GrandWest in Cape Town, then moves to the Durban ICC in KwaZulu-Natal on August 7, and concludes with a finale at the SunBet Arena, Time Square, in Pretoria on August 10.
The timing could not be more meaningful, Women’s Month in South Africa is a period of national reflection, celebration and recognition of the power and resilience of women across all walks of life.
“South Africa has always shown me so much love, and I’m incredibly excited to return this August. Performing during Women’s Month makes it even more special,” Tamia says.
For those who grew up in the late 1990s and 2000s, Tamia’s music is deeply personal. Classics like Stranger in My House, Spend My Life With You, So Into You, and Officially Missing You have become anthems for romance, heartbreak and everything in between.
In fact, her discography is, in the truest sense of the phrase, the soundtrack of a generation.
Born in Windsor, Ontario, Canada, Tamia Hill, known professionally as Tamia, broke onto the global music scene in the mid-1990s and never looked back. Her self-titled debut album and subsequent releases cemented her status as one of the most distinctive voices in contemporary R&B.
She is perhaps best known to South African audiences for Stranger in My House, a song that became a dancefloor staple at clubs and house parties across the country and still receives radio play today.
What makes Tamia’s connection to South Africa so unique is the depth of loyalty her fanbase here has shown over the years. Long before social media made global fan communities easy to build, South Africans held Tamia in the same regard as homegrown artists.
The decision to stage this tour during Women’s Month is no accident, and it speaks to the intentionality behind the event. August in South Africa carries enormous cultural weight. It is the month in which the country honours the 1956 Women’s March on the Union Buildings, an act of extraordinary courage by thousands of women who stood up against the injustices of the apartheid pass laws.
“To bring an artist of Tamia’s calibre to the stage during this month is to celebrate the modern South African woman in the most vibrant way possible,” says the organisers.
Tamia herself seems to understand this weight. In a statement shared by organisers, she expressed genuine enthusiasm about returning to the country. Her words reflect someone who has forged a real relationship with her South African audience over many years, not merely an artist fulfilling a contractual obligation.
Fans attending these shows can expect a full production concert experience, live band, stunning visuals and, above all, that unmistakable voice. The press release from Gabiso Media promises an unforgettable evening of world-class entertainment, nostalgia and powerful vocal performances.
Given Tamia’s track record on stage, this is a promise she is more than capable of keeping.
Tickets for all three shows are available exclusively through Webtickets and at Pick n Pay outlets nationwide. Organisers have urged fans to act quickly, given the level of anticipation around this tour, these shows are widely expected to sell out well in advance.
