DUEL: Stick backs returning players to seize their chance as South Africa face a resurgent Wallabies side on Sunday…

Springbok assistant coach Mzwandile Stick expects a fierce contest against Australia in Perth on Sunday, as several players get a chance to press their claims for a regular place in the team.
The match at Optus Stadium kicks off at 11.45am South African time and will be broadcast live on SuperSport.
After four demanding weeks against the All Blacks, Stick welcomed the opportunity for players including Canan Moodie and Handré Pollard to return to action. Both had been close to featuring in the series before injuries intervened.
“We are excited about the guys getting an opportunity,” Stick said. “They have worked very hard to be where they are and they deserve the opportunity.”
He was particularly pleased for scrumhalf Herschel Jantjies, who has had little game time this season but impressed the coaches in training.
“He’s probably only played about 25 minutes this season, but he’s been great in training sessions, so I’m very excited for him to get a chance,” Stick said.
Stick said the series against New Zealand had demanded an approach similar to a World Cup knockout campaign. The Australia match offered the coaches a chance to test more of the squad while continuing to build towards the next tournament.
The Wallabies, however, would give those players a stern examination. Stick pointed to the strength of Australia’s matchday 23, particularly its powerful midfield runners and experienced replacements.
