Clients can expect to be pampered, cared for, and indulged as they embark on their beauty journey.

In anticipation of the grand opening, the beautician shares valuable insight into her inspiration, her vision for BabyGirl 24/7, and how she plans to revolutionise the beauty industry. When asked if creating a brand like BabyGirl 24/7 was something she always wanted to do, she explained,

“Entrepreneurship has always been my passion since childhood. Growing up, I knew I wanted to start my own brand when I had conversations with my sister, Dimpho Phogole, my silent partner and shareholder in the business. I was initially interested in starting a fashion brand, but as time passed, my passion for beauty grew, and with Babygirl 24/7, I merged all my passions into one.”

Choosing the ideal location was challenging for her, but she ultimately found the perfect spot at 15 Bree Street in Cape Town. Speaking about the decision, she said,

“The heart of Cape Town, one of the trendiest and most beautiful streets, was the ideal location for BabyGirl 24/7. It offers easy access for clients, ample parking, and high visibility for the business.”

What sets her business apart is its commitment to offering a more modern, fresh take on beauty. Phogole explains, “We prioritise using the latest best beauty methods, employ quality staff, and encourage creativity to offer fresh, unique, and stunning results. Our space, Babygirl24/7 beauty salon, is designed for indulgence, leaving no details out. We are                going all out for our clients.”

To provide customers with a luxury experience, BabyGirl 24/7 utilises high-quality designer products and ensures their staff is knowledgeable and experienced. They also offer convenience by providing tools, products, information, and ideas to make self-care easy and hassle-free.

To keep herself continually motivated, Phogole lives by the motto that hard work pays off. She emphasises the importance of self-awareness, being the best version of yourself, and continuously learning and improving.

SKINCARE MYTHS DEBUNKED

ESSENTIALS: How to take care of your skin this summer…

By Mpumi Brown

As the days get longer and the temperatures rise, skincare routines need to adapt to the changing seasons. “Spring brings new challenges and opportunities for maintaining healthy, radiant skin,” explains Bodidoc brand manager Miso Mchunu.

However, she adds, it is essential to separate skincare fact from fiction and debunk some common spring skincare myths. Mchunu explores these myths and uncovers the truth behind them to set the record straight. These, according to her, are:

  • Heavy creams are best for spring

Many people believe that using a heavy cream is the solution to combating dry skin during the transition from winter to spring. While it is essential to keep your skin well-hydrated, using a thick, very rich cream may not be the best approach.

Debunked: Lighter, hydrating lotions are often more effective during spring. Heavy creams can clog pores and lead to breakouts in warmer weather. Opt for one that offers adequate hydration without feeling greasy on the skin, such as Bodidoc’s Tissue Oil Lotion, with Avocado Oil, Vitamin E, Evening Primrose Oil. It will moisturise the skin and help to reduce stretch marks and uneven skin tone.
  • Spring showers hydrate your skin

Some people think that living in a part of the country that experiences increased humidity and spring rains means that this will naturally hydrate their skin, eliminating the need for moisturisers.

Debunked: While higher humidity levels can help maintain skin moisture to some extent, they may not be sufficient to keep your skin adequately hydrated. Continue to apply your lotion to lock in moisture and prevent dryness.

  • The harder you scrub, the better

Scrubbing the skin hard gives an illusion that the skin feels cleaner after. While many may think that cleansing your skin harder is better, in reality, it’s the opposite. Too much scrubbing could damage the skin.

Debunked: Essential skincare does not need to be aggressive for it to work. Being easy on the skin is preferable to scrubbing.

  • Shower more often

The cleaner your skin the better, right? Well, not necessarily. While we’re not suggesting you let your personal hygiene standards slide, you might want to reconsider that third – or even second – daily shower.

Debunked: To keep the skin’s protective barrier intact, it’s best to bathe only once or twice a day to avoid washing away natural – and necessary – oils. If you have dry or sensitive skin sticking to one bath or shower a day will help prevent itching and irritation.

  • You don’t need to take as much care with your body skin

While some areas are harder than facial skin, other areas – namely the skin on your neck and chest and backs of the hands – are similarly thin and quick to show signs of ageing.

Debunked: Make sure you keep these areas hydrated and protected, and be gentle when washing, scrubbing, and drying your skin – from top to toe.
