A major career development initiative aimed at rural learners is set to launch in the North West Province next month.
The organisers of the inaugural “The Rural Career Expo” expect to reach about 4 000 learners, providing them with career guidance, mentorship exposure and information on higher education and funding opportunities.
With its focus on accountancy and other fields, the exhibition will take place at the Baphiring Tribal Offices and Sports Grounds in Mabaalstad from February 2 to 3. The programme will run daily from 08:00 to 14:00.
The event is being led by the Baphiring Tribal Authority, in collaboration with The Princess & Friends non-profit entity.
Organisers say the expo is designed to promote a holistic, psychosocial approach to education while strengthening learners’ career readiness and future planning.
The initiative will expose learners to a wide range of career paths and industries, including Commerce, STEM, Medical Sciences, Arts and Humanities, while also promoting skills development and life-long learning.
The expo also aims to address the challenges faced by learners from disadvantaged backgrounds, particularly limited access to career information, study opportunities, and financial support such as scholarships and bursaries.
In addition to career exposure, the programme will encourage networking and collaboration between learners and potential institutions, mentors and employers, while providing motivation and psychosocial support.
