The Africa Choice Awards (ACA) has unveiled 120 nominees for its seventh edition, marking a historic milestone as the prestigious Pan-African awards ceremony heads to South Africa for the first time.

The nominees were announced at an exclusive media briefing held at Bryanston Rockets in Johannesburg last Friday, coinciding with Africa Day celebrations and drawing media personalities and industry stakeholders from across the country.

This year’s nominees represent a broad spectrum of African talent in television, radio, podcasting, music, film, fashion, beauty, photography, digital content, innovation and entrepreneurship. The shortlist features creatives and industry leaders from South Africa, Nigeria, Kenya, Uganda, Ghana, Cameroon, Mauritius, Zimbabwe and Namibia.

According to organisers, nominees were selected through a combination of public submissions and an independent evaluation process conducted by media and industry professionals from six African countries. Candidates were assessed on visibility, influence, consistency, industry impact and overall merit.

“South Africa provides a powerful gateway to unite African excellence through media, entertainment, culture, technology and creative collaboration,” said Puni Modiboa, managing director of Mmina Tshipi Integrated Marketing Communication.

Among the South African nominees are Farieda Metsileng and Carpo Moore in the Online Comic of the Year category, while Vuyo Varoyi, Thuli MUA, Nomsa Madida, Loyiso Beauty and Stephy are among those competing for Make-up Artist of the Year alongside nominees from Kenya and Nigeria.

Social media personalities Bontle Modiselle and Lasizwe Dambuza have earned nominations for Social Star of the Year, while Julienne and Khanyi M, Troy Molaiwa, Thobeka Mbane, Keketso Nthibane and Shei Masondo are among the contenders for Fashion Stylist of the Year.

Other categories include Young Entrepreneur of the Year, Fashion Brand of the Year, Photographer of the Year, PR Agency of the Year and Most Promising Female and Male Star.
