Produced by Singa Vision Productions, co-producers of Genesis, the new Mzansi Magic telenovela Kwa Baba premieres on June 1 at 19:30.
Set in Msawawa, Diepkloof Ext, the drama explores the tensions between love, tradition and family duty. At the centre of the story is Zwelakhe Mkhize, played by Vuyo Biyela, a young businessman preparing for marriage when he is forced to confront a traditional obligation linked to his late father’s unpaid debt.
His relationship with Bahumi Motaung, portrayed by Rorisang Mohapi-Grootboom, is tested as family expectations and painful secrets begin to surface.
The cast also includes Hlengiwe Lushaba-Madlala as MaMbokazi, Mpho J Molepo as Solomon Motaung, Helen Lebepe as Dikeledi, Lindani Nkosi, Nkanyiso Mzimela, Kwanele Mthethwa, Sparky Xulu and Phumzile Mlangeni.
Shirley Adonisi, Director of Local Entertainment Channels, said the series reflects the realities many South Africans face where modern life and tradition intersect.
She said the story follows a first-born son learning to lead, honour his father’s legacy and embrace his role as Inkosana while navigating love and family pressures.
